Reflection
Machicomoco State Park is a relatively new addition to Virginia's State Park System. While Machicomoco has deep cultural significance, its wetlands, proximately to tidal waters, and its combination of mixed hardwoods, pines, and open fields provides a unique opportunity for studies in biodiversity studies. Numerous mobile apps and on line resources are available to help. Though, nothing replaces the intimate knowledge gain when one has an opportunity to stroll through a study site. I encourage all to take the time to visit natural areas near and far with their eyes, ears, and nose open wide. An open mouth, however, may gather bugs.
